Pratima

advertisement short film

3:05 min | Animation Film

Pratima is a film close to my heart as it is my first film dedicated to my city and a homage to the biggest festival there.

Approach:

I believe to make a promotional narrative ad film for a brand, I must resonate with it’s brand identity. I focused on finding the brand/ products I grew up with which created a sense of appreciation within me for the brands. My vision for bringing out the background characters like the real artisans behind the massive works they produce aligns with Sharad Shamman’s vision for highlighting people of Pujo. Faces which do not get recognised.

Synopsis:
In 2042, the abandoned Kumartuli of Kolkata stands silent as the world retreats into virtual reality. An old artisan crafts a Durga idol on the eve of Mahalaya, while his daughter, Aparna, longs to revive the lifeless streets for the goddess’s arrival. Unable to find paint in a world where colors are forgotten, she despairs until Durga manifests as a child, offering divine alta. With this magical gift, Aparna transforms Kumartuli into a vibrant celebration. As Mahalaya dawns, the artisan completes Durga’s eyes, and Kumartuli comes alive once more, proving that traditions can transcend time and technology.
